As part of my Time Machine research I have been reading books and marking each time they describe sounds, colours and smells. I’m in interested in how language is used to trigger memories/associations in our minds that help us to imagine what an author is describing.
The books I an currently working with are;
- The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.
- The Waves by Virginia Woolf.
- The Sixth Day by Primo Levi.
I have used these descriptions of smells, sounds and colours/light to make abridged versions of the books using only the text descriptions.
I am currently working on making further versions of these abridged books, not using text but only the colours, sounds and smells they describe by-passing language. I have completed 3 for The Time Machine by H.G. Wells so far…
