S.R.I.L. CONVERSATIONS |BELFAST |OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2009

I invited people to make a personal history in terms of smell, using an archive of smells I had collected from previous projects. The archive included things such as tobacco, talc, herbs, pencil sharpenings and cleaning products. This was located in The Botanic Gardens Belfast (as seen) and in a second hand bookshop/cafe for 9 weeks. People were asked to say what smells they associated with childhood, home, grandparents, being a teenager, school etc.

During this time people were invited to record their own smell histories, the results of these conversations were made into the following sound piece which was shown in the Foyer gallery of the University of Ulster alongside the source of some of the smells which they spoke about.
